T5 - The Art of Animating
About T5
The T5 training series represents Centre NAD's response to the ever demanding challenge posed by CG productions. T5 training sessions are aimed at professional artists willing to improve their artistic skills, vision and proficiency.
Content
The training will first and foremost focus on the art of animating. Secondarily, the training will discuss the animation techniques behind a production: Layering, straight ahead, pose to pose, hybrid, etc. Then, the training will discuss efficient workflow using XSI. The final result will be a short, production-quality animation. This five-day workshop is intended for professional 3D artists. The week will be organized as a production, with dailies, concepts theory, and supervised production. 15 seats will be available for professionals and teachers. Below are the content details per day:
- Day 1: Introduction, Shot assignment, Animation and Acting Theory, Scene Planning, Pose blocking
- Day 2: Dailies, pushing poses, staging, adding breakdowns, weight, arcs, anticipation, timing, from constant to linear curves
- Day 3: Follow through and overlapping action, primary animation pass, splining, animation ghosting, judging your animation
- Day 4: Secondary action, blinks, head tilts, reviewing your animation and fixing it efficiently, common mistakes, pitfalls
- Day 5: Final touches, getting it done, final feedback, screening

About the teacher, Christoph Schinko
Coming from Softimage 3D, Christoph has worked with XSI since it was released. A certified trainer since XSI version 1.5, he has taught numerous courses, published tutorials and articles, and given presentations at conventions like: CeBit, FMX and Comic-Con. Although he is a character animator and rigger at heart, nearly 10 years of production experience (commercials, TV- and feature film work) have made Christoph a strong all-rounder. He is an award-winning independent filmmaker, and is currently freelancing in the UK and abroad. His feature film credits include Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, King Arthur and Alien vs. Predator. During the lab period, Christoph Shinko will be assisted by Gino Vincelli, Certified XSI Instructor at NAD Centre and initiator of the T5 series.
