VFX SUPERVISION WORKSHOP WITH FRANÇOIS LAMBERT OF INDUSTRIAL LIGHT & MAGIC (ILM)
General description
This course is intended for professional visual effects artists, specifically team leaders and supervisors who want to learn how a VFX Sequence Supervisor operates in the context of a large scale production. Most of the visual effects examples are based on the Pirates of the Caribbean III, which was created by ILM under the supervision of François Lambert. The content will cover planning, organization, execution, production workflow, and pipeline with some examples of good and bad practices. By the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to understand the content and the daily context pertaining to a VFX Sequence Supervisor job in a large production studio.

About the speaker, François Lambert
François Lambert, a graduate from the Jonquiere College, Arts & Medias Technology program, has 15 years of work experience in the visual effects industry and over 30 feature films. He has been working at Industrial Light & Magic since 2003 and is now their Sequence Supervisor. François is responsible for duties such as team supervision, tools and look development, workflow organization and shot supervision until completion of the work. As a Digital Compositor, he is responsible for all kinds of visual effects in feature films. Prior to ILM, François worked for several well-known studios like Hybride Technologies, Big Bang FX/Animation and other companies in the Montreal and Vancouver region. He also has to his credit many films including Star Wars: Episode 3, Harry Potter IV, Pirates of the Caribbean II: the Dead Man's Chest, Pirates of the Caribbean III: At World's End. François has also won a VES award for Outstanding Compositing in a Motion Picture for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean II: the Dead Man's Chest, and he is a nominee for this year's VES Award for Best Single Visual Effect of the Year for Pirates of the Caribbean III.
Course Objectives
After successfully completing the VFX Supervision workshop, the participants will be able to understand the job of a VFX Sequence Supervisor in the context of a large production studio, more specifically:
- Roles and responsibilities
- Production planning and organisation
- Execution and completion of a project
- Understanding a large production pipeline
- Good and bad practices
Prerequisites
Participant must have fundamental knowledge of VFX production tools, language, workflow, and professional experience in producing visual effects.

Diploma
Participants received a NAD Centre letter of completion at the end of the workshop.
