MASTER CLASS WITH MICHEL GAGNÉ
The Art and Animation of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

General description

This one day masterclass with award winning animator Michel Gagné, will present how traditional animation technique can be transposed inside a video game. The class will use examples from the gorgeous visuals and rich story telling of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (nominated for "Best Downloadable Game of the Year" of this year Annual Interactive Achievement Awards).

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is a creation of Michel Gagné and Joe Olson, and is following Michel previous award winning animated series, Insanely Twisted Shadow Puppets. The class will alternate between presentation and discussion, and examples from ITSP will be presented in order to illustrate the subject. At the end of this training, whether participants are animators, game designer, artists, writers or producers, they will be able to incorporate the unique vision of Michel Gagné in their daily creative process.

About the speaker, Michel Gagné

Michel Gagné began a highly successful artistic career in 1985 after graduating from Sheridan College School of Visual Arts, where he studied animation. Renowned for his unique vision, Michel has lent his talent to several animation companies, such as Don Bluth Studios, Warner Bros., Disney, Pixar, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, etc. His creative work can be seen in over twenty feature films including The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones and Ratatouille.

His award winning short films have played in festivals throughout the world. One of them, Sensology, was short listed for an Academy Award in 2010. He has been honored by the International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, with five Annie Award nominations. He continues to create animation, special effects and conceptual designs for companies all over the world. Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, one of his most ambitious projects, has been nominated for a number of awards and was named by numerous critics and fans as one of the best games of 2011. Course Objectives

At the end of the training, the participant will be able to: Understand the technical and artistic process of translating a rich animated movie into a video game Use specific camera techniques used to create a "Pixar-like" animation quality for a video game Know when and how to generate emotions from animation to create intense and epic moment Understand the techniques and tricks applied in this type of production Understand the production workflow associated with this type of production

Prerequisites

Participants must have experience in animation, game and level design or as 3D artists.

$395 per participant, including lunch and materials
