Preparing Yourself

Registration procedures for foreign students:

Please read the information below in order to prepare for studying in Québec:
  1. To find out more about registering and the required documents for non-Québec students, please visit the application form section on UQAC's website.
  2. To study in Québec, you must obtain the Certificat d'Acceptation du Québec (CAQ- Québec acceptance certificate) and a study permit. To find out about application procedures for the Certificat d'Acceptation du Québec (CAQ) AND the study permit, please visit the Immigration Requirements section on UQAC's website.
  3. The UQAC provides practical information and useful links for foreign students to help them get organized for their trip. This information is available in the Foreign Student section.
  4. An FAQ section for foreign students is available on the CREPUQ website.

Programs lasting six months or less

According to immigration law, international students registered for a program lasting six months or less are the only ones who are not obligated to have a Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) or a study permit. However, the following documents are still required: passport, birth certificate and temporary residence visa if necessary.

It is recommended that you obtain a CAQ and a study permit* if your intention is to continue your studies in Québec at the end of your short-term program.

*The first study permit must be issued outside Canada.

Health Insurance

Healthcare services are not free for foreigner residents. This is why the international students need to take insurance in order to obtain their visa. If you don't subscribe before your departure, you will have to do so as soon as you arrive here.

Many insurance companies offer this type of services, but we suggest one.
